Want yourown pub?

Have you ever thought of running your own pub business? It’s something that many people dream of, but we are the first to accept it’s not a life-style that suits everyone. It’s often hard work and long hours but it really can be incredibly rewarding – if you have the passion for the job…and you pick the right business.

There are many pub companies out there, many that don’t even brew beer, and most towns offer a mix of traditional outlets and chain pubs and restaurants. Village pubs, though, continue to thrive in an environment where they have the right people at the helm.

Elgood and Sons Ltd are different from many pub companies that have businesses available for rent. Family-run, it was first established in 1795 and is located in the historic Georgian town of Wisbech. More than 200 years after it was first established the brewery is now run by three Elgood sisters with their father, Nigel Elgood, as Chairman.

The company is proud of its history and its contribution to local life in Wisbech. Elgood’s are one of the main attractions in the town, with a stunning 4-acre garden, gift shop and cafe. Regular events throughout the year attract ale-drinkers from all over the UK…. who will also seek out Elgood’s pubs and pub-restaurants throughout the area as well.

All of our businesses are within a 60-mile radius of the brewery, so under an hour’s drive. This award-winning brewery has a number of individual pubs of character available right now. So, why should you pick us to work with? Well, we are different, because our businesses aren’t “themed”. Our tenants are encouraged to develop their own catering style to create an additional income stream. Right now, our range includes a village pub in the fens offering fresh fish suppers at £7 and other businesses offering Sunday Carvery under £10. Then there are critically acclaimed pub-restaurants offering top quality traditionally prepared pub meals with local produce at reasonable prices….. through to one Elgood’s house, close to the North Norfolk coast, offering some of the best food you will find anywhere in East Anglia…..with the awards on the wall to prove it.  That’s the point, you see, our businesses are individual. And, if you choose to work with us, you will be offering some of the finest cask ales in the country, alongside proven national brands.

We have pubs ranging from low capital ingoings of around £10,000 to larger catering establishments where the capital requirement will be in the region of £30,000 or more. Our public houses are tenanted and let on a traditional three-year rent agreement, with a three-year cycle of review.

In 2016 we took the decision to loosen the terms of our traditional tied house agreement.  Our tenants are now free to purchase all their wines, spirits and soft drinks from suppliers of their own choice, instead of a nominated wholesaler, whilst still maintaining the tie to the Brewery for the supply of all draught products.  This freedom of choice is rare within the industry but we believe it provides even more scope for our tenants to develop their businesses.

If you have at least £10,000 available, then you may indeed be able to work in partnership with us to create a successful business with your own individual stamp on it.  Remember your success is our success so it is in our interest to help you in any way we can – and we will.

Running a business with more than 200 years of history behind it represents a real opportunity, which we hope you will consider. Please take the first step by filling in the form (button below) and then we will be in touch to invite you to the Brewery for an informal meeting. We have that passion for what we do and we look forward to meeting you and, hopefully, working with you to ensure your success in this exciting industry.
