SIBA_East_Region_2023_Awards

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our 2023 annual Beer Festival from September 22nd to 24th. This year’s festival was an incredible success, and it’s all thanks to you, our wonderful patrons.

We were thrilled to welcome over 1000 beer enthusiasts through our gates, making this festival a true celebration of ale. The festival featured a vast selection of the finest ales our region has to offer, showcasing the passion and craftsmanship of our local brewers in SIBA East Region competition, which took place on Friday, September 22nd. We are ecstatic to announce that we also received well-deserved recognition this year:

  • Silver – Cask British Best Bitter – Greyhound Strong Bitter
  • Silver – Cask Session Pale Ale – Route 66
  • Bronze – Cask Session Dark Beer – Black Dog
  • Bronze – Cask Speciality Amber to Dark Beer – Plum Porter

Congratulations to all the breweries who entered this year’s competition, and to those who received accolades, the submissions were impressive!

But the success of this festival goes beyond awards and accolades. It’s about community and giving back. We are thrilled to share that your generous donations raised an astounding £250.00 for the Air Ambulance this year. Your support will make a meaningful difference to those who will need this service.

Once again, thank you for being a part of our 2023 Beer Festival. Your passion for beer and your enthusiasm make this event truly special. We look forward to seeing you again next year for another unforgettable festival.

The Craft Beer Channel at Elgoods Brewery

Elgood's Coolship TrayThe Craft Beer Channel joined us with Crossover Blendery last month to brew using our historic twin Coolship trays, which date back nearly a century, adding a unique and traditional element to the brewing process. The Coolship, also known as “cooling ship,” is a large shallow vessel used for open fermentation and cooling of hot wort before fermentation. This traditional method allows wild yeast from the surrounding environment to inoculate the wort, resulting in complex, tart, and sour flavours in the finished beer.

After brewing with the Coolship, the wort is then blended and aged in barrels by Crossover Blendery. Barrel aging adds another layer of complexity to the beer, as it imparts flavours from the wood and any previously stored spirits, contributing to the unique character of the final product.

By Crossover Blendery using our historic brewing process, the resulting beers will have distinctive flavours and aromas, showcasing the artistry and creativity of modern craft brewing while paying homage to traditional brewing techniques from the past century. Beer enthusiasts can look forward to enjoying the complex and unique tart and sour flavours.
